The Understanding is het tweede studioalbum van het Noorse duo Röyksopp. Ten opzichte van hun debuutalbum Melody A.M. kent dit album meer nummers met vocals. Naast de reguliere editie, is er ook een 'deluxe editie' van het album, met een bonus-cd. Hierop staan voornamelijk instrumentale tracks. Van het album verschenen vier singles: 'Only This Moment', '49 Percent', 'What Else Is There?' en 'Beautiful Day Without You'.

The Understanding is the second studio album by Norwegian electronic music duo Röyksopp. It was released on 22 June 2005 by Wall of Sound. The Understanding debuted at number 13 on the UK Albums Chart, with 22,466 copies sold in its first week. The album was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on 1 December 2006, and had sold 103,500 copies in the United Kingdom by March 2009.
