Stan Getz, geboren als Stanley Gayetsky (Philadelphia, 2 februari 1927 – Malibu, 6 juni 1991), was een Amerikaans tenorsaxofonist, vooral bekend om zijn fusion van jazz en bossanova in de jaren zestig, in samenwerking met onder anderen Astrud Gilberto, João Gilberto, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Jan Johansson en Charlie Byrd. Hij werd door het grote publiek en door zijn collega's zeer bewonderd. Hij kon op zijn tenorsax zowel heel gevoelig spelen (mellow) als supersnel en zijn klank werd zo beroemd, dat deze bekendstaat als The Sound (hét geluid).

Getz werd vooral bekend met zijn uitvoering van het nummer The Girl from Ipanema, tevens zijn grootste commerciële succes.

Stan Getz (born Stanley Gayetski; February 2, 1927 – June 6, 1991) was an American jazz saxophonist. Playing primarily the tenor saxophone, Getz was known as "The Sound" because of his warm, lyrical tone, with his prime influence being the wispy, mellow timbre of his idol, Lester Young. Coming to prominence in the late 1940s with Woody Herman's big band, Getz is described by critic Scott Yanow as "one of the all-time great tenor saxophonists". Getz performed in bebop and cool jazz groups. Influenced by João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim, he also helped popularize bossa nova in the United States with the hit 1964 single "The Girl from Ipanema".
