Mariah Carey (Huntington (New York), 27 maart 1969 of 1970) is een Amerikaanse pop-/r&b-zangeres, songwriter, producer, actrice en schrijver. Ze wordt ook wel de "Songbird Supreme" en de "Queen of Christmas" en "Mimi" genoemd en staat bekend om haar vocale bereik van vijf octaven, melismatische zangstijl en het kenmerkende gebruik van het fluitregister. Carey werd in 1990 beroemd met haar gelijknamige debuutalbum. Ze was de eerste artiest die met haar eerste vijf singles een nummer 1-notering in de Amerikaanse top 100 behaalde.

Careys debuutalbum werd uitgebracht onder leiding van Columbia Records platenbaas Tommy Mottola, met wie ze drie jaar later trouwde. Carey behaalde grote successen met de albums "Music Box" (1993), "Merry Christmas" (1994) en "Daydream" (1995) en met singles als "Hero", "Without You", "All I Want for Christmas Is You", "Fantasy", "Always Be My Baby" en "One Sweet Day". Carey is the highest-certified female artist in the United States and 10th overall, with 75 million certified album-equivalent units.
