Fontaines D.C. is een Ierse postpunk band, afkomstig uit Dublin. De band werd opgericht door Carlos O'Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III, Grian Chatten en Tom Coll, die elkaar ontmoetten op het British and Irish Modern Music Institute en begon oorspronkelijk als dichtcollectief, in welke hoedanigheid ze ook twee dichtbundels uitbrachten.

In 2019 bracht de band haar debuutalbum Dogrel uit via Partisan Records, dat lovende kritieken ontving. Het tweede album, A Hero’s Death, verscheen in juli 2020, op hetzelfde label.

In april 2022 verscheen het album Skinty Fia.

Op 23 augustus 2024 verscheen het vierde album genaamd Romance. Het album werd geprezen door critici, met onder meer een score van 89/100 op Metacritic, en op plaats 1 in de jaarlijsten van Time Out en The Independent. De groep verkreeg twee nominaties voor de Grammy Awards. Voor de eerste keer verschenen de album singles Starburster en Favourite ook in de Britse hitlijsten.

Begin 2025 bracht de groep de single It's Amazing to be Young uit. Met een 39ste in de Britse hitlijst en 45ste plaats in Vlaanderen werd de single een van de meest succesvolle singles van de groep.

Fontaines D.C. are an Irish post-punk band formed in Dublin in 2014. The band consists of Grian Chatten (vocals), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass), Tom Coll (drums) and Carlos O'Connell (guitar).

The band members met while attending music college and bonded over a common love of poetry. They began self-releasing singles and performing live regularly, signing to Partisan Records in 2018. The band's debut album, Dogrel, was released on 12 April 2019 to widespread critical acclaim. It was listed as Album of the Year on record store Rough Trade's website, voted Album of the Year by presenters on BBC Radio 6 Music, and nominated for the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize.

The band's second studio album, A Hero's Death, written and recorded in the midst of touring to promote their debut album, was released on 31 July 2020. A Hero's Death was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Their third album, Skinty Fia, released in 2022, was the band's first to reach number one on the Irish Albums Chart and UK Albums Chart and contributed to their winning the Brit Award for International Group. The band's fourth album, Romance, was released on 23 August 2024. Romance won The Album Award at the Rolling Stone UK Awards 2024
