The Reason is een nummer van de Amerikaanse rockband Hoobastank uit 2004. Het nummer staat op het gelijknamige album.

Het nummer belandde op nummer 2 in de Amerikaanse Billboard Hot 100. In de Nederlandse Top 40 kwam het tot nummer 9, en in de Vlaamse Ultratop 50 tot nummer 12.

The Reason gaat over een jongen waarvan zijn meisje bij hem weg is gegaan. De jongen mist haar verschrikkelijk, en zoekt een reden om opnieuw met haar te beginnen.

Released on January 26, 2004, as the second single from their second studio album of the same name, the power ballad is Hoobastank's most commercially successful single, peaking at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart. In 2005, it was nominated for two categories at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards: Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Internationally, "The Reason" reached number one in Canada and Italy and peaked within the top 10 in 10 other countries.
